Contego, a RegTech and compliance specialist, today announced that it had once again achieved the Cyber Essential Plus certification, a government backed, industry supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against the increasing threat of cyber-attacks.
To achieve the stringent Cyber Essentials Plus certification, Contego undertook a complete review of all security processes in the organisation, which were then independently tested by IASME, one of the four Cyber Essentials accreditation bodies appointed by the government.
Why is Cyber Security so important?
Cyber-crime is increasingly becoming a threat for many businesses, regardless of size or sector, as criminals find new and inventive ways to hack into a technology and steal critical business data.
More than half of businesses in the UK fell victim to a cyber-attack in 2016, equating to almost three million firms in total, costing the economy £29.1 billion. These are the findings of a recent report compiled by Beaming, the business ISP (Source)
On average businesses were subjected to 230,000 cyber-attacks each, (Source) which demonstrates the growing threat of cyber-crime today.
Despite businesses being urged to be more vigilant and stay up-to-date on cyber security solutions, a Government survey on cyber breaches in 2016 (Source) revealed that of the 3 million firms that experienced a cyber-attack last year, only half took any recommended action.
As hackers are becoming more ambitious it has never been more important to ensure you have robust process in place to reduce your risk of a cyber-attack.
